“A good man leaves an inheritance [of moral stability and goodness] to his children’s children…”
(Proverbs 13:22)
A child who can depend on good parents knows they can ask for what they need and if it’s truly needed, it will be provided if at all possible. But none of us can read minds as well as we think. Anyone, including a child, might need to ask in order for us to know something they want or need.
My Dear Spiritual Family, of course God does already know what we need before we ask. But it pleases God that we would enter a time of prayer, of spiritual communion with Him, as we speak out our need. Last week I lost my vehicle keys and after first looking, I told God that I knew HE knew where they were located, and He would direct me where to look. Immediately, I found them in the bottom of a small trash can. Jesus told us, “Ask, and it shall be given to you” (Matthew 7:7). It’s the fact that we turn to God as our Good Father, rather than relying solely on ourselves that grows our relationship with Him.
In Matthew 7:7 Jesus did not mean that God will give us everything we ask for. What He meant is what we find in Psalm 37:5 – “Depend on the Lord; trust Him, and He will take care of you.” If we truly depend on and trust in Him, we are led by His Holy Spirit to ask for what He already knows is truly best for us, not simply our worldly desires.
God loves to hear you call upon Him. He loves the closeness of relationship with Him. He wants you to learn to have that same joy of closeness with Him. He wants you to feel the certainty that His response will be out of His love for you, so that you increase the value you have for His personal care. Know that He is eager to hear from you, whatever your need might be.
Join me in praying: “Lord, I want to learn the habit of relying upon and asking You for my needs until I find what You give me what You know I need. Amen.”
Father’s Day Blessings!!
